Balu Kids is a Montessori children's center near Ubud, Bali. We offer daycare for ages 2–3, kindergarten and pre-school for ages 3–6, and an English-language Primary Education Program for ages 6–10.

Yes — our pre-school group for ages 3 to 6 is what most families mean by kindergarten. We also take younger children in daycare from age 2, and children from 6 to 10 in our Primary Education Program, which is why we describe ourselves as a children’s center rather than by any single one of those words.

Our campus is at Br. Sumampan, Kemenuh, Sukawati, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80582. That is outside Ubud town itself, in the green belt to the south-east, and we offer an optional minibus transfer for families based in and around Ubud.

About 30 minutes by car from central Ubud. Traffic in the area varies, so allow a little more at busy times. If that sounds far, remember it is also why we have 1,000 square metres of grounds — and if you choose our optional minibus transfer, the drive is done for you.

Children from 2 to 10 years old, across three programmes: daycare for ages 2–3, pre-school for ages 3–6 and the Primary Education Program for ages 6–10.

All classes are held in English. Indonesian (Bahasa) is taught as a language alongside it.

That is the normal starting point here — many of our children are not native English speakers. The programme is adapted so that a child can understand and follow along without stress, rather than being expected to keep up from day one.

Our educators hold higher education degrees and have several years of experience in early childhood education, and they take regular further training. We would rather introduce them to you in person than list them on a website — ask us, and we will tell you who would be working with your child and arrange for you to meet them.

Daycare and Pre-School are 12,500,000 IDR per month for a full day (9:00–16:30) and 6,900,000 IDR per month for a half day (9:00–12:30). Three-month packages are 33,000,000 IDR full day and 18,000,000 IDR half day. The Primary Education Program is 4,900,000 IDR per month (9:00–14:45), or 13,200,000 IDR for three months. There is a one-off deposit of 500,000 IDR per child, and a 10% discount on tuition for each additional sibling attending. No admin fees and no hidden charges.

Yes, as an optional service. It is not included for every family, so please ask us whether it works for your address. We run comfortable minibuses that collect and return children for families living further from the campus.

All meals are prepared on site and served buffet-style, so children learn to choose for themselves. We bake our own nutrient-rich bread from soaked chickpeas and lentils, flax, sunflower and chia seeds. Chicken and eggs come from a free-range, halal farm, dairy-free, gluten-free and sugar-free options are prioritised, and a second breakfast — for example eggs, pancakes or banana tofu — follows the morning exercises.

Yes. We have a dedicated nap room so that younger children get a proper, quiet rest in the middle of the day.

The adaptation process is individual and planned together with parents. We adjust the pace to the child, and you receive daily reports in a dedicated parent chat about how your child ate, slept and played.

For the Primary Education Program, swimming and chess are available as additional classes, and an afternoon program runs from 15:00 to 16:45 with mental arithmetic, reading and writing, drums, chess, gardening, English club and art. For ages 2–6, the programme includes emotional reading and stories, pianica, Bahasa Indonesia, cooking and dancing.

Many of our families are in Bali for a limited period, and we are used to shorter enrolments. Tell us your dates in the enquiry form and we will tell you what is possible.

The Primary Education Program is deliberately kept small, at around 20 children, so teachers know each student well. Daycare and pre-school groups have a maximum of 15 children.

We run Monday to Friday. Daycare and Pre-School run 9:00–16:30 for a full day and 9:00–12:30 for a half day. The Primary Education Program runs 9:00–14:45, followed by an afternoon program from 15:00 to 16:45.
