What we stand for, in plain words
Balu Kids is built on two foundations: the Montessori method and Humane Pedagogy. The first shapes how children learn. The second shapes how adults treat them.
We create a safe and accepting space where every child can be themselves, respected in their uniqueness and free to grow at their own rhythm. Guided by Humane Pedagogy and Montessori philosophy, we nurture the whole child — body, mind, heart, and spirit — preparing them for life, not only for the classroom. Together with parents and educators, we grow in respect, warmth, and meaning.
Eight values, and we mean all eight
- Safety
- Respect for the person
- Acceptance and love
- Non-violence
- Freedom and responsibility
- Joyful and playful learning
- Cooperation and support
- Holistic development — emotions, mind and body
The second foundation
Montessori describes how a child learns. Humane Pedagogy describes how we behave towards them while they do it. It is why there is no pressure, humiliation, coercion or punishment here — and why, when something goes wrong, we look for the reason behind it before we decide what to do.

Respect for the child’s dignity
The child is not a “future adult” but a complete person here and now.
Love and trust
Relationships are built on unconditional love, trust, and acceptance. We believe in the child.
Freedom and responsibility
The child has the right to choose, explore, and express themselves — with guidance towards responsibility, in a safe environment.
Individuality and uniqueness
Each child is unique, with their own path, pace, and talents.
Non-violence
No pressure, humiliation, coercion or punishment — instead, dialogue, understanding, and respect. To know what to do, we first understand the reason behind the problem.
Holistic development
Nurturing not only knowledge, but also emotions, creativity, will, and spirit.
Connection and cooperation
Education grows in partnership — between child, parent, and teacher.
Joy of learning and living
Learning is not a burden but a joyful discovery of the world and oneself.
Principles for children
These are the promises we make to your child, in the words we use with them.
We are safe to be ourselves.
We can cry, laugh, and enjoy just the way we feel. You don’t have to be nice.
Everyone has their own space and boundaries.
We learn to say: “Stop!”, “I like this,” or “I don’t like this.” No one has to touch, hug, share, or play if they don’t want to.
We speak with respect.
We use kind words. We show anger with words, not by hurting. We can hit a pillow or use a safe space — not people.
Feelings help us.
We say our feelings, draw them, or hug.
We are learning — and we don’t need to be perfect.
Mistakes help us learn. We try again and support each other.
We are together — and each of us matters.
You are special. You don’t have to be like anyone else.
We don’t say “right” or “wrong.”
We look for friendship and try to understand each other.
Principles for parents
How we work with you — including when something is difficult.
We accept you as you are.
We accept children and parents as holistic beings — without expecting perfection.
We have boundaries — and we have choice.
We create an environment where boundaries are respected.
We speak with respect — even when it’s hard.
We remain respectful, even in conflict situations.
Emotions are not wrong — they help.
We don’t “fix behaviour”; we acknowledge emotions and move through them with awareness. We take responsibility for our own emotions.
We are learning — and we don’t need to be perfect.
We don’t divide into “right” and “wrong.” We don’t blame when something doesn’t work out — we seek connection and move forward together.
We are together — and each of us matters.
We don’t work with the “perfect child,” but with the real, living one.
We support your approach — and we cooperate.
Your way of parenting is the starting point we work from, not something we correct.
Principles for our team
We ask the same of the adults here that we ask of the children. This is what our educators agree to.
We follow the rules.
We set up and follow rules that help us work together effectively and respectfully, and that keep the environment safe.
We are safe to be ourselves.
We don’t hide our tiredness or our emotions. We don’t “leave emotions at the door”; we bring them with us consciously, acknowledge them, share them with care, and give support. Emotions aren’t a problem — they are a resource.
We have boundaries — and we have choice.
We don’t disturb each other’s space — we respect rest, focus, and silence.
We resolve difficulties constructively.
We learn to see the essence behind a reaction.
We are learning — and we don’t need to be perfect.
We are not ashamed of mistakes; we discuss them, learn from them and take responsibility.
We are together — and each of us matters.
We recognise everyone’s contribution and don’t set ourselves against one another.
We create a space of love and presence.
What matters most is the atmosphere. The connection. The feeling of “I am welcome here.”
